What turns a listed rate into monthly income
Three things decide what you take home each month: selection, hours and how the project pays.
1Selection
Passing the AI interview puts you in a talent pool. micro1 then picks people from it for each project.
A summary of Reddit posts on Annotation Academy describes the interview as the entry to that pool, and candidates there report waiting weeks for a project or not being selected.
2Hours
Volume follows what the client needs that week.
micro1's guide to its expert agreement says roles continue "as long as the client has work to be completed". Candidates on Reddit, in the same summary, report busy weeks followed by quiet ones, and projects that pause or end early.
3Pay per task
On per-task contracts you are paid your rate times a multiple for each approved task, whatever the task took.
micro1's FAQ explains that on per-task contracts project leadership approves each task, and you get your hourly rate multiplied by a "Project Payout Multiple". You may still be asked to log your time.
- Finish a task faster and your effective hourly figure goes up.
- Take longer and it goes down.
How and when micro1 pays

You are paid as a contractor
micro1's expert agreement guide says you are engaged as an independent contractor. Budget for that when you compare a listed rate with a salary.
You are a contractor
Out of the listed rate, you pay your own:
- Taxes
- Social security contributions
- Insurance
- Benefits
The guide to micro1 payments and taxes covers this in more detail, and the rest of the contract terms are in the guide Is micro1 legit?
What to watch out for
- Compare roles inside your own field, where the rates are alike.
- Read a wide range such as $50 to $150 per hour as a band: the figures here use its middle, and your contract sets your exact rate.
- Check in the contract whether you are paid per hour or per approved task. Some candidates on Reddit report an hourly listing that turned out to pay per deliverable.
- Plan your budget on the 15 to 20 hours micro1 expects, and keep a margin for quiet weeks.
- Prepare well for the interview, since selection comes first. See the micro1 AI interview guide.
Each role shows the rate micro1 lists for it. The list changes daily: 269 roles were open on 26 October 2026, when the figures above were taken. You can also go straight to micro1's full job board (referral link).
