Steps, tests and stated times on ten platforms

The platforms are in alphabetical order. Each time below is the platform's own figure, from pages opened on 30 October 2026. The open roles are this site's count on 2 November 2026, with a role posted once per country counted once.

Reported timings

None so far. A wait described by an applicant or a reporter goes on this page only after we have read the report on its own page, and the reports we found were in forum threads we cannot open or in blogs that retell them without a source. If you applied to one of the platforms above, write to us with the platform, the step and how long it took.

How to read the table

  • A time in the table is the platform's own statement: an upper limit ("up to 30 days"), a usual time ("within a few days") or a target ("we aim to"). None of them is an average measured across applicants.
  • "No time is given" means the page we opened states none.
  • Review and work are two different things. micro1 says that even "Hiring manager reviewing" does not guarantee a place on a project, and Handshake AI says an application does not guarantee placement.
  • The open roles come from the public job lists this site reads every day. Alignerr and Turing show only roles picked by hand, so their platforms list more on their own sites. Outlier and DataAnnotation are not in the daily list: you sign up on their sites, and projects appear in your account.

What to watch out for

  • A test you can take once deserves a quiet hour and a full read of the instructions first. DataAnnotation says its Starter Assessment has "no retakes or second chances", and Mindrift resets a test only after a verified technical problem.
  • Silence means different things on different platforms. Handshake AI says that not hearing back right away does not necessarily mean you were declined, while Turing says that no reply six weeks after you complete your application typically means you were not selected.
  • An unfinished step can hold everything up. micro1 issues its certificate only after the profile and the ID check, and Handshake AI lists onboarding requirements to finish before any project work.
  • Your location counts. Welo Data's FAQ says it uses location verification to confirm eligibility for some opportunities.

Common questions

How long does it take to get accepted on an AI training platform?

It depends on the platform, and most publish no figure. DataAnnotation says approval usually arrives within a few days of the Starter Assessment, micro1 says a hiring manager review can take up to 30 days, and Turing says an application review can take from 48 hours to 6 weeks.

How long does the assessment itself take?

Outlier says onboarding typically takes 30 to 90 minutes. DataAnnotation says most Starter Assessments take about an hour and specialist ones one to two hours. The micro1 AI interview lasts 20 to 40 minutes.

Can I retake a failed assessment?

DataAnnotation says there are no retakes, and Mindrift generally gives no second attempt. Mindrift and Turing can reset a test when a technical problem affected it. The other platforms in the table publish no retake rule.

Does passing the assessment mean I will get work?

Not by itself. Handshake AI says an application does not guarantee placement on a project, micro1 says the same of a hiring manager review, and Mindrift expects downtime after a project ends. Work starts when a project needs your skills.

What does it mean if I hear nothing?

At Handshake AI, silence does not necessarily mean you were declined. At DataAnnotation, no reply means the application is likely still under review or has not been accepted yet. At Turing, no reply six weeks after you complete your application typically means you were not selected, and support can then check the status.
