Whether a role is open to India depends on the role itself, and two roles at the same platform can differ. Use the table to see where they are, then read the country line of each role.

A role counts as open to India when its posting names India or says worldwide. A posting that names no country is not counted. Platforms are in order of roles open to India, then by name, and the median is the middle of the listed hourly rates in US dollars.

Hindi and other languages

A language role asks for a native or fluent speaker. It can ask for English as well and can name the country of that speaker. How you are paid in India
2,613 of the 2,544 open roles are listed as contracts. In a contract role you work as an independent contractor, so nobody withholds tax for you. Payment goes through the platform's own route. As one example, micro1 pays in US dollars twice a month through Deel, and Deel lets contractors move the money to a bank account, Wise, PayPal, Payoneer, Revolut, Coinbase or stablecoins. Deel's account settings show which of these work in your country and what each one costs (micro1 payroll policy and Deel help centre, read October 2026).

Where the rate depends on the country
A listed rate is what the posting says. Some platforms say that location can change it: Outlier states on its FAQ that rates vary by expertise, project complexity and location (outlier.ai/faq, read October 2026), and some roles list a rate for one country only. Compare roles inside one platform and one field before you decide that a rate is for you.

What to watch out for
- Some platforms check your country again when you apply, even when the posting names India or says worldwide.
- A role can be open to India while the way the platform pays does not reach it. Read the payment terms before you spend time on a test.
- The listed rate is the posting's. What you earn depends on the hours a project offers and on passing the platform's tests.
- Never pay to join. The US FTC advises walking away from anyone who asks for an upfront fee for a job (consumer.ftc.gov, job scams, read October 2026).
How we count
Platforms are ordered by number of roles open to India, then by name. Each role counts once, at the middle of its listed hourly range in US dollars. A role that lists only a maximum counts at that maximum, and company-wide ranges that are not the pay of a role are left out. There is no median with fewer than 5 rates.
