Roles for experts list the most. Law roles open to the UK list a median of $117.50 an hour (46 rates). Medicine lists $100 (25 rates), finance $110 (27) and coding $75 (58). There are 286 language roles, with a median of $28.

How to read the numbers
A listed rate is what the posting says. The weeks of work a project offers, and whether you pass the platform's tests, decide what you earn. For a doctor, lawyer or engineer the better guide is the one for your own work: doctors, lawyers, engineers, PhD scientists.
What to watch out for
- Some platforms check your country again when you apply, even when the posting says worldwide.
- Most of these roles are contracts, not employment, so tax and National Insurance are yours to handle. Check your own case with an accountant.
- If you work in medicine or law, read your main employment contract and any confidentiality terms before you take outside work.
