Meridial vs Welocalize

Meridial vs Welocalize from this site's daily list: open roles, fields, languages, listed pay, hiring steps and who each suits, read October 2026.

Last read

Meridial and Welocalize both post a lot of roles, and both have many language roles, but they differ. Meridial, the contractor platform of Invisible Technologies, has 757 open roles on this site today, including STEM, coding and medicine, and shows a pay range on almost every one. Welocalize, whose AI data business is called Welo Data, has 314, mostly language and rating work for one market, and 219 of them show no pay. Meridial suits someone with a specialist field who wants to see a range first. Welocalize suits someone whose main asset is a language and a country.

What the open roles look like today

These counts come from this site's daily read of each company's public job board, on 26 October 2026. Meridial's roles split by field as languages 467, STEM 109, coding 74, generalist 45, medicine 26, finance 18, law 11, writing 6, trades 1. Welocalize's split as languages 293, writing 10, generalist 4, coding 2, robotics 2, law 2, STEM 1. Meridial roles name 80 countries and 195 are open from anywhere. The Welocalize figures are 107 and 38. Both repeat a role for each language or locale, so there are fewer distinct jobs than postings.

On pay, 100 Meridial roles list an hourly rate of their own, with a median of $22 an hour, and another 649 carry the platform-wide range, which we leave out of the median. At Welocalize, 95 of 314 roles show a rate, from $2.25 to $70 an hour, and the median is $16. Listed pay is what the platform shows on the posting. It is not guaranteed pay and it is not an acceptance.

How the work and the pay work

Meridial hires independent contractors, not employees. By its home page and FAQ (read October 2026), the rate range is published on each engagement and confirmed before you begin, and earnings are processed every two weeks to the account in your profile. Many roles show one platform-wide range instead of a rate for that role, so the posting tells you less than it seems to. The home page also says Meridial does not guarantee project engagements, so work comes project by project.

Welo Data says pay is for completed tasks and project work, and that it varies with task type, complexity and volume. The method and frequency of payment are confirmed during onboarding (Welo Data careers page, read October 2026). Most Welocalize listings we read are marked as contract work, but the careers page does not say whether contributors are employees or contractors. Rating work depends on project demand, so hours change from week to week.

Getting in

At Meridial you create a profile on meridial.ai, pass a short confirmation step and apply to the projects that match your skills. Each engagement then comes with its own Statement of Work. Questions go to the help address on its site.

At Welocalize each posting links to an application form on Lever, run by the company. Once you apply, the Welo Data careers page lists a Welo Works account, a language and cultural assessment with optional study material, a task related exam and, after approval, payment details. Most freelance language roles are tied to one country or language, and that line decides whether you can apply at all.

What to watch out for

  • Ask whether a step is paid before you spend hours on an assessment or onboarding task. Trustpilot reviewers of Meridial describe unpaid onboarding tests and approval with no project afterwards.
  • Check the posting date on Meridial roles. A role open for a long time may be a pool of candidates and not a seat on a live project.
  • Check the sender of every Welocalize email. Welo Data says genuine messages come only from @welocalize.com, @weloglobal.com, @hire.lever.co and @welodata.ai, and that it never asks for fees.
  • Treat the Trustpilot scores as small, self-selected samples. They show what can go wrong, not how often.
  • Never pay to work. The US Federal Trade Commission advises walking away from anyone who asks for an upfront fee for a job.

Verdict by type of person

  • You want specialist work in STEM, coding or medicine: Meridial. Welocalize's list is nearly all language work (see the fields row).
  • You want language or rating work in your language and country: check both. Each posts one role per language or locale, so search for yours on the jobs page.
  • You want to know the pay before you apply: Meridial shows a range on almost every role, 100 with a rate of their own and 649 with the platform-wide range, where the real rate is set per project and confirmed before you start. Most Welocalize postings show none.
  • You want steady hours: neither promises them. Meridial says it does not guarantee project engagements, and Welocalize's rating work depends on project demand.
  • You want a clear list of steps before you start: Welocalize publishes its hiring steps and its official email domains, and Meridial publishes its steps and its pay cycle.

Pay figures are rates as listed, not what anyone earned. Platform pages: Meridial and Welocalize. Background on each company: is Meridial legit and is Welocalize legit. For rates across every platform, see the AI Training Pay Index.
