What the interview covers

Mercor's talent docs, read 22 October 2026, say the interviewer asks role specific questions, generates a transcript and evaluates your performance for the listing. Some interviews are technical and need a deep discussion of your past experience, and others test language or reasoning. Some include a whiteboard that saves on its own. The docs do not describe a scoring scale.

Set up before you start

  • Use a computer, with a camera and microphone you have tested. Mercor recommends headphones and an external microphone.
  • Use the latest Chrome if you can. Edge and Safari are supported. Firefox and mobile browsers are not.
  • Sit in a quiet place with your whole face in the picture and light on your face. Check your connection, because an unstable one can disrupt the interviewer's replies.
  • Complete the setup checks in the waiting room and play the test sound.
  • Have pen and paper to hand, and a calculator if the role needs one.

During the interview

  • Answer clearly and briefly, and avoid long silences, because a pause can make the AI speak.
  • If it interrupts you during a pause, you can say you were not finished. You can also ask it to repeat or explain a question.
  • Captions are on by default and you can turn them off.
  • The Help button in the interview screen is for problems.
  • Follow Mercor's LLM usage policy: grammar and wording checks are fine, but do not use a language model to write your answers.

Retakes

Mercor says you can retake an official interview up to three times across all applications related to it, and that retaking resets your application progress. It asks you to keep retakes for technical problems, and says hiring managers can see how many times you retook. If another application needs the same interview, your existing result is kept, and completed steps carry over to new applications.

Recordings and data

Mercor's docs say it keeps your recordings and an AI transcript of official interviews, that it does not sell the data, and that interview data is not used to train AI models. Some of the lawsuits filed against Mercor after its 2026 data breach make claims about monitoring and the use of recorded interviews, which are allegations we have not checked. Read the section on the breach in Is Mercor legit? and decide what you are comfortable sharing.

After the interview

The docs say you are notified when your application moves to the next stage. They give no timeline, so apply to other roles while you wait.

What workers ask on Reddit

On r/mercorai_workers, the interview is a repeated complaint: a thread from 5 October 2026 has 29 comments from workers who are tired of repeating AI interviews, and others ask how long review takes after an interview or whether anyone got an offer for a given role, for example a multimodal image assessment role (2 October, 30 comments). These are individual posts, not a count.
