What AI training roles list, by field

Each row counts the roles of one field on 26 October 2026 and the hourly rates they list. A field with too few rates gets no median.

Pay follows the qualification the role asks for: a role for licensed doctors or lawyers lists more than one that asks for a native speaker to rate chatbot answers. The AI Training Pay Index keeps the same figures over time, with the method.

Where these figures come from

This site reads the public job lists of 23 AI training platforms once a day and copies the rate each listing states. On 26 October 2026 that came to 2,544 roles.

  • Only hourly rates in US dollars are used. 1,136 roles give no hourly USD rate of their own: they pay per task, in another currency, or list no rate.
  • A range counts at its midpoint, so a role that lists $20 to $40 counts as $30.
  • An "up to" rate counts as written, so read those figures as ceilings.
  • Some platforms write one wide range on most of their roles instead of the rate of each role. Those roles stay on the list and are in none of the figures.
  • A few listings tagged as remote describe paid studies done in a city. They are not remote work and are left out.

What platforms without a public job list say

Some of the best-known platforms show projects only inside an account, so this site has no rates of its own for them. Here is what each one publishes:

  • DataAnnotation: its home page shows $25 to $50 an hour for generalist roles and $40 to $150+ for specialised ones. See the DataAnnotation page.
  • Outlier: no rate card. Its FAQ says rates vary by expertise, project complexity and location, and that you see the rate before you start a project. The Outlier pay guide has the details.

Mercor does publish its roles, each with its own hourly range and no single rate card, and this site lists them. The Mercor pay guide has an example listing and the bands a third-party guide gives.

Rate versus what you take home

  • Hours are not fixed. Projects start and end with client demand, and a high rate with two hours of work a week pays less than a modest rate with twenty.
  • A rate per task or per unit depends on how fast you work, so it cannot be turned into an hourly figure.
  • Most roles are freelance contracts: no employer pays your taxes, and you handle them where you live.
  • Location can change the rate. Outlier says so, and some roles list a rate for one country only.

How to check a rate before you sign up

  1. Open the listing on the platform and read the rate line and its unit: per hour, per task or "up to".
  2. Check the countries the role accepts. A rate for US residents does not apply to you if you live elsewhere.
  3. If the listing shows no rate, ask the platform before you spend hours on tests. Ask in writing whether a long test task is paid.

See all 2900 roles on this site with the rate each platform lists, and filter by your country, language and field.

What to watch out for

  • "Up to" is a ceiling, paid at best to the strongest candidates.
  • A listing can raise or lower its rate while it stays open, so read the rate again when you get an offer.
  • An unsolicited WhatsApp or Telegram offer of easy money for simple tasks is a common scam pattern, and the US Federal Trade Commission advises walking away from anyone who asks for an upfront fee for a job.
