What Mercor listings show

Mercor job pages can show an hourly range and the weekly hours, and both depend on the role. The Expert Model Trainer listing we read in October 2026 gave $50 to $140 an hour for about 15 to 20 hours a week, and said the range was "based on domain expertise". Mercor publishes no rate card, so the range for one role says nothing certain about another.

A third-party guide, aigigjobs.com, gives wider bands: about $25 to $80 an hour for annotation work and $50 to $150 for expert work. These figures come from a guide, so the listing in front of you is the number to trust.

What a rate range means

A range is what the listing shows for the role. Where inside the range a person lands is not stated, and the listing gives no rule for where inside the range someone lands. The one listing we read ties its range to domain expertise. Weekly hours matter as much as the rate: $50 an hour for 15 hours is $750 before any tax, and an hourly rate says nothing about how many hours a project will offer. Mercor places people project by project and promises no hours, so a range gives you the price of one hour and leaves the monthly total open.

How to read a listing

  • Find the hourly range and the weekly hours. If only one is shown, you have half the picture.
  • Check the contract type. Mercor's payment docs describe hourly contractors, so a role paid another way needs its own terms read.
  • Look for what sets the rate, such as the domain expertise the listing names.
  • Note whether the role is open to your country. Mercor can only onboard people in places on its supported-countries page.
  • Read the rate and terms in the contract you are offered, since the listing is the starting point.

How and when Mercor pays

This comes from Mercor's talent docs on payments, read again in October 2026.

  • All contracts are in US dollars. Stripe or Wise converts to your local currency when the money is paid out.
  • Hourly contractors are paid every Wednesday, around 12:00 PM PST, for the previous work week. The docs define the week as Saturday 12:00 AM to Friday 11:59 PM IST.
  • Hours come from time tracking, and the docs name Insightful for it. Time logged while a contract is paused is not paid. The Spend page in your account groups hours by work week and is described as the source of truth for payouts.
  • Stripe holds the first payout for 7 days, and Mercor cannot override that. Later payouts follow the Wednesday schedule.
  • Stripe's standard payout is free and arrives within up to 5 business days. An instant payout costs a 1.0% fee and arrives in about 30 minutes if your bank supports it. The docs state no Wise fees.
  • Bonuses and work-trial pay follow a separate schedule, with a maximum lag of 7 days, and a bonus needs explicit approval in the system.
  • Mercor assigns the payment provider by the country of your bank account: Stripe Connect where it supports payouts, Wise elsewhere. You do not choose.

You work as an independent contractor, so taxes are yours to handle where you live. The docs say tax information is required when you set up Stripe, and they name no tax forms.

How Mercor compares

This guide gives no Mercor median of its own. For reference, on 26 October 2026 the median hourly rate listed across 1,408 roles on this site was $55, and the middle half ran from $22 to $90. Those figures are midpoints of listed ranges, so they do not line up with the top or bottom of a Mercor range. The guide to how much AI trainers make has them by field, and the AI Training Pay Index keeps them over time.

What to watch out for

  • Read the hours as well as the rate. A high hourly range with 15 hours a week pays less than it looks.
  • A listed range is not your rate. Read the rate and the terms in the contract you are offered.
  • The first payout is held for 7 days, so plan for the wait. Check that Stripe or Wise pays out in your country.
  • Paused contract time is not paid. One worker on Reddit reports 7 hours deducted from pay after an offboarding. That is a single post we cannot check.
