What the studies say
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects, for the closest occupation it counts, change in employment from 2025 to 2035: Software developers up 10.2% and Computer programmers down 7.3% (Employment Projections, Table 1.2, published 27 August 2026). That is a different list from the roles above, which ask for software engineers to help train AI models. The BLS warns that its numbers do not capture the uncertainty of predicting the future.
